A Community Food Preservation Workshop
Join us for a hands-on day celebrating food, culture, and sustainability! Together, weโ€™ll transform surplus end-of-season produce into delicious small-batch preserves โ€” think spiced chutneys, pickles, relishes, and fermented greens โ€” inspired by Afro-Caribbean and global flavours.

๐Ÿ“ Brockwell Park Community Greenhouses, Brixton

๐Ÿซ™ What to Expect:

Guided preparation and cooking session using locally grown produce

Learn sustainable preservation techniques and reduce food waste

Take home your own jar of homemade preserve

Hear about our food enterprise pathways and community markets

Enjoy a friendly, collaborative afternoon connecting over food and culture

This event will connect environmental education, enterprise, and cultural storytelling through food. In participating, you will learn practical preservation skills, while exploring the deeper traditions of food as resistance, resilience, and community care. Your participation will also help us build a circular food economy โ€” from soil to store โ€” while celebrating the cultural power of food. Surplus jars will be sold at markets and future community events in order to increase the economic sustainability of our grassroots movement.

๐Ÿ”About the Partner Organisations

Black Growth CIC is a grassroots Black-British led organisation creating safe spaces for the social and economic empowerment for the Black community in environmentalism and agriculture. We host cultural events, have started a market garden in Croydon in partnership with Roots Allotments, and engage in advocacy in order to center Black and global majority communities in the food and land justice movement.

Brockwell Park Community Greenhouses (BPCG) is a community garden in the centre of Lambethโ€™s Brockwell Park. We want to create a garden where all can learn, play and grow together. At BPCG, people learn about conserving the environment and wildlife, to appreciate nature and to understand organic gardening and food growing โ€“ and all in a very friendly community spirit.

Nika’s Kitchen Annika Jaramillo is a fully qualified chef, nutritional therapist and integrated health coach specialising in plant based wholesome foods. Annika has worked in a wide range of environments including running her own pop-up restaurants, menu development for food businesses, catering private events and retreats, food demo’s and bespoke corporate workshops amongst many other ventures. Annika is a keen social entrepreneur seeking to support those less fortunate by sharing skills around budget cooking, sustainability and tackling food insecurity.
